Lethal-and-occasionally-gravity-defying-fruit! Beware! Review of Indiana Rodent – Raiders of the Lost Cheese (by Wham) by Crystal Shard Games Indiana Rodent – Raiders of the Lost Cheese is a small platformer game developed for the AGS engine by Radiant. The game tells the story of Rody, a little rodent with a fedore, as he goes on an adventure to recover the lost cheese. While not the most complex or unique of stories, fun little touches give the tale a personality of it’s own and averts a poor score. Damn you, duck – damn you! The music and visuals are well on par with most freeware games of today. While the game could do with a little more animation and visual flare, the graphics are clearly readable and don’t trick the player as some platformers tend to do. A lot of the visual style in this game seems to have been derived from Super Mario world, and while this might lack originality, it makes the game more accessible to people with earlier platforming experience. My only real gripe with the visuals is that in some levels the backgrounds are a tad too psychedelic and can make certain jumps a little confusing. The music also takes many ques from Super Mario games and fans of the old Mario games will find their lips twitching with smile as their subconscious identifies some bits of the music from classic sources. I’m pretty sure Indiana Rodent hates snakes with a passion, just like a certain other Indy… Gameplay-wise Indiana Rodent is pure gold, especially taking into account the platform it was developed on. The AGS engine is designed with point’n'click adventuring in mind, and finding ways to bend the engine to the developer’s will like this is commendable in itself. Add to that the fact that the gameplay mechanics work flawlessly 99% of the time, there are three difficulty levels (with automatic adjustment to repeated failures) and secret unlockables, and you will find that Indiana Rodent is a platformer that earns its place in almost any platformer lovers heart easily. Now please excuse me, I need to go show that duck who’s boss!
