EA confirmed – Accounts Got Damaged.
EA confirmed BioWare forums have been hacked earlier this week and 18,000 Neverwinter Nights accounts got damaged.
Sony suffered seriously for its high-profile breach earlier, and Codemasters, Bethesda, Epic Games, Minecraft maker Mojang, and CCP also have reported attacks or service disruptions due to hackers recently. It seems the gaming industry is facing serious hacker problems for weeks. Electronic Arts and BioWare makes the latest victim.
It has confirmed by EA that “a highly sophisticated and unlawful cyber attack” happened to its Neverwinter Nights forum earlier this week, damaged an “extremely limited” percentage of accounts, for which the number is 18,000. For those accounts, account names, e-mail addresses, passwords, country and birth dates were exposed. BioWare Legacy Accounts were disabled, while more newly registered EA Accounts have to reset password before getting logged in again. And all those impacted uses are supposed to get an e-mail notification from EA explaining the situation.
Because of this attack, EA is now doing evaluation of the seriousness of this breach. And according to EA, the forum’s system has been secured by now. However, no official comments have been made on who’s responsible for this attack.
