Second Life – A virtual world where money grows on trees!!!
Second Life began its life in 1999 as an on-line video game but has grown into an internet community that is something akin to The Matrix; a combination of a 3D experience, social networking and chat rooms in which people totally immerse them. It is a virtual world where money grows on trees; you can fly like Superman and teleport from one place to another. Here are some tips that will help you get the most out of Second Life.
For the best experience in Second Life you need a fairly powerful computer set up. For PC users it’s recommended that you have Windows XP or Vista, a 1.5 GHz processor, 1 GB of memory and an nVidia GeForce 2, ATI Radeon 8500 or Intel 945GM graphics card or better. Mac users should have at least a Mac OS X 10.3.9, a 1 GHz G4 processor and the same amount of memory and graphics capability as the PC.
Second Life – The currency will be the linden
When you first venture into the alternate reality that is Second Life, you will be a stranger in a strange world. If you feel a little lost, you are not alone. Most first time users are little overwhelmed by this three-dimensional virtual world where almost anything is possible. For those that have experience with MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games) navigating your way around Second Life will be easier, but for the uninitiated it can be a steep learning curve. Many first time users simply give up and never make a second visit. Succeeding in Second Life takes patience, perseverance and many hours of your time.
Spend as much time as necessary to develop an attractive and appealing avatar. Unfortunately, much like the real world looks matter in this Game. You can’t succeed in the virtual world if you can’t get other residents to interact with you. It’s even important that you dress appropriately for your character.
If you want to make some money in this virtual world, and you can actually make real money, you have to find a niche market, create a new product or service or start up a business in an established market. You maintain intellectual property rights to anything you create and you can sell it. You can also just get a job, but that won’t make you rich. The currency in this virtual World is the linden. Its value fluctuates but 300 lindens are worth approximately $1 U.S. When your avatar earns the equivalent of $150 U.S., it can be converted to real dollars and deposited in your real bank account.
Second Life – The Law is Called Big Six;
Just like in the real world, in Second Life you have to obey the law. The law in this virtual world is called the Big Six; a code of behavior that forbids intolerance, harassment, disturbing the peace, disclosure of another residents personal information as well as both assault and indecency if the acts are committed outside of specified zones. First offenders will get a warning, but repeat offenders run the risk of having their membership suspended or revoked, in which case they will lose all their money and processions.
With some ingenuity, creativity and hard work, you can become a Second Life success story. A few people have even made enough money to quit their real jobs and one woman, whose avatar is a virtual land baron, managed to achieve millionaire status in the real world.
