It’s a bit early to make such wild predictions since I’ve only just started playing it, but I think the Space Quest fan game ” Vohaul Strikes Back ” could very well be the best freeware adventure game release of 2011. I’m enjoying it immensely, especially the dialogue and Indiana Jones / Star Wars references (though they’re not the only things to get a cheeky mention already in the game). Great stuff so far.
